Poems as Relief Goods

by Felix Fojas

Relief goods do not
Exclusively come in hard
Cash and the tangible
Form of food and medicine
To alleviate the pains
And travails of grieving
Haiyan survivors who

Still carry the unburied
Bloated corpses of their
Loved ones in the open
Mass graves of their grim,
Storm-lashed memory.
Miraculously, relief goods
Can pirouette with grace

To a country laid waste
In the subtle most shape
Of soothing syllables
And rhyming nuances
That heals the bruised
Hearts, minds and souls
Of suffering mankind.
